| Parenting during the
holiday season is like skiing down a mountain backwards. You
are never sure what you will bump into, but you are certain
you will bump into something and that it will probably be
painful.
Sometimes its those words from the mouths of our babes:
"Oh, I didn't want that toy," or "But
Jimmy got.................. Other times it is a look of
disappointment - that says loud and clear - "didn't she
know what I wanted."
With the holidays still a couple of weeks away, we have not
fallen down the slippery slopes yet. I am sure if you sat down
with your children at dinner tonight and asked them about
their happiest family moments, it won't be about the time they
got present X. It will be about the time they experienced Y or
when something funny or out of the ordinary happened.
With this holiday season being more difficult than those of
the recent past due to the economic crisis, perhaps it is time
to give our children something funny and out of the ordinary -
an experience to remember.
