Parenting in December

Parenting during the holiday season is like skiing down a mountain backwards. You are never sure what you will bump into, but you are certain you will bump into something and that it will probably be painful.

Sometimes its those words from the mouths of our babes: "Oh, I didn't want that toy,"  or "But Jimmy got..................  Other times it is a look of disappointment - that says loud and clear - "didn't she know what I wanted."

With the holidays still a couple of weeks away, we have not fallen down the slippery slopes yet. I am sure if you sat down with your children at dinner tonight and asked them about their happiest family moments, it won't be about the time they got present X. It will be about the time they experienced Y or when something funny or out of the ordinary happened.

With this holiday season being more difficult than those of the recent past due to the economic crisis, perhaps it is time to give our children something funny and out of the ordinary - an experience to remember.

So you just had another baby, congratulations!

Did you grow another arm?

When I called a friend who had recently had her 3rd child, she said, "can't talk now. I am holding one, my husband is holding the other and we have a third screaming on the floor."

Whether you have older children or not, once you add to this equation getting ready for holiday dinners, trying to cook, wash the dishes or even open the mail. You will come to the same conclusions I did. I could really use an extra pair of hands right now.

That is why having a baby carrier can be a real lifesaver not only during these stressful moments, but also as a way to hold your baby so that he/she can feel your warmth, while you still have your 2 hands free.
